Learner Drivers

Getting Started

Simply enter your NSW suburb or postcode on our homepage. You will see a list of verified, local instructors along with their ratings, availability, vehicle type (manual or automatic), and hourly rates. You can compare profiles side by side and book directly online — no phone calls needed. Your first lesson can often be scheduled within days.

Absolutely. All our instructors are experienced working with complete beginners. If you have zero driving experience, we suggest starting with at least 7–10 hours of professional tuition. For less confident learners, 15–20 hours is quite common — everyone learns at their own pace, and there is no rush. The goal is to become a safe, capable driver, not just pass a test.

You will need a current and valid NSW Learner Licence (L plates) before your first lesson. You can obtain this by passing the Driver Knowledge Test (DKT) at a Service NSW centre. Without a valid learner permit, we are unfortunately unable to proceed with any bookings. Make sure your permit has not expired and that you carry it to every lesson.

It genuinely varies by person, but here is a general guide:

• Complete beginners: 7–10 hours minimum, often 15–20 hours

• Some prior experience: 5–7 hours to sharpen skills

• International licence holders: 3–5 hours to adapt to NSW roads and road rules

• Manual learners (already hold an auto licence): 3–5 hours

These are starting points, not fixed rules. Your instructor will guide you based on your progress.

NSW Logbook Hours

Yes! In NSW, every 1-hour lesson booked through OziLicence with a certified instructor counts as 3 logbook hours — up to a bonus of 30 hours for your first 10 lessons. After that, each lesson still counts at a 1:1 rate. This means you can reach your 120-hour requirement significantly faster. Night lessons count slightly differently: 1 hour towards night hours and 2 hours towards your daytime total.

NSW requires learner drivers to complete a minimum of 120 hours of supervised driving, including at least 20 hours of night driving, before sitting the Driving Test to obtain a Provisional (P1) licence. Professional lessons count towards this total (with the bonus multiplier for the first 10 lessons), making it much easier to hit your target. Your instructor can also sign off on lesson hours in your logbook.

Yes — we have instructors across NSW offering both automatic and manual vehicle tuition. When browsing instructor profiles, you can filter by transmission type. Keep in mind that passing your NSW driving test in a manual vehicle means your licence covers both manual and automatic, giving you the most flexibility as a driver.

Bookings & Cancellations

You can cancel or reschedule a booking at any time up to 24 hours before the lesson through your OziLicence learner account. Within 24 hours, a late cancellation fee may apply — you can submit a late cancellation request for review. If it is less than 5 hours before your lesson, please contact your instructor directly. All cancellations must be processed through the platform.

Yes, you are free to change instructors at any time — no explanation required. Simply log in to your learner account and select a new instructor from the available options in your area. Any unused lesson credits in your OziLicence wallet carry across automatically, so you will not lose anything you have already paid for.

Yes. You can set a preferred pickup address in your account settings, and you are also able to request a different drop-off location for individual lessons. This is handy if you want to be picked up from home and dropped at school, work, or a Service NSW centre. Confirm specific arrangements with your instructor when booking.

Absolutely — driving lesson gift vouchers make a fantastic present! You can purchase a voucher for any dollar amount directly on the OziLicence website. The recipient can use the voucher credit to book lessons with any instructor in their NSW area. Vouchers are delivered digitally and can be sent straight to the recipient's email.
